Tampa International Airport is located 6 miles west of Tampa, in the North shore of the Tampa Bay, which was the birthplace of commercial airline service when pioneer aviator Tony Jannus flew the first scheduled commercial airline flight in the world, from St Petesburgh, Florida, to Tampa, using a Benoist Flying Boat.
Initially named Drew Field Municipal Airport, Tampa International Airport served 16.8M passengers during 2012 on almost 190,000 flying operations.

Tampa International Airport Reviews (10)
I’ve lived in Tampa for 62 years born and raised Tampa International is probably the top rated airport in the world more convenient than any airport I’ve been in and I’ve been in a lot. I don’t think no other airport in the United States compared to Tampa International I believe it’s number one that’s my opinion.
Just recently flew out of Tpa, and I have to say my experience was amazing! Easy to navigate, well signed and beautiful! We had two hours to wait for our flight to depart, it went by pretty quick thanks to the comfy seats and recharge stations.
Lived in Tampa for 40 years and flew to many many others during that time. TPA so much more user friendly. Well signed, organized and efficient. Always easy to leave or arrive.
Laidback Clean And Comfortable
My first experience flying into Tampa International Airport was most certainly a decent one. Having to wait there several hours for a friend arriving on a later flight, I was able to relax, nap, eat, and enjoy the free WiFi. The airport is very organized and clean. What a different from other airports I have been to. The staff and security were kind and helpful as well.
Best Airport
* Easiest to Park * Good Restaurants * Easiest to get in and out of parking garage * Very Well Laid Out * Free Internet Access for all! By far, the best airport of the United States.
Tampa Airport
One of the best Airports in the US.
The Best
TPA is just the best designed airport. It is so easy to go from one gate to the other, without much walking. Just compact and effcient.
A View Of Airside
One of the most customer-friendly airport in the world with easy access to all amenities.
Beautiful Airport
All my experiences at TPA have been great. The only thing I can complain about is the service at their little seafood pub, but thats not the airport’s fault. The airport has good parking facilities including a cell phone lot for people waiting to pick up passengers. The grounds are clean. Shopping isnt the focus of this mid-sized airport but you’ll find what you need in the main level of the airport. Food choices can be limited. There’s not too much to pick from on groundside, but some of the airside terminals have good pickings. TPA is located minutes from downtown, traffic in this area can be hectic but there are plenty of alternate routes to and from the airport. There is also great shuttle service available to pretty much anywhere within a reasonable distance, even as far as into manatee county, and the rates are reasonable. I love TPA
There is no other airport in the world like Tampa International I don’t care what anybody says it’s the most modern inconvenient airport in the world and I’ve been in a few easy to get around ABCDE it’s simple as that if you don’t know your alphabet and numbers one through 62 and you have a problem Tampa dedicates it’s time to make Tampa International the best that’s why it is the best.
