Located 4 miles (6 km) north east of Southampton city, Southampton Airport was built over the remains of a Roman Vila in 1910. It was in fact in that year when pioneer pilot Edwin Rowland Moon used the site, formerly known as North Stoneham Farm, as a take-off and landing spot for his monoplane. The airport is owned and operated by AGS Airports who also owns and operates Aberdeen and Glasgow Airports.
Having handled over 2 million passengers in 2017, Southampton serves both domestic and international flights to locations such as Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Hannover or Alicante. The airport is a busy transport hub, and can be easily reached by public transport. There is a dedicated train service, which takes passengers to the centre of the city in 10 minutes and its own railway station called Southampton Airport Parkway. For those who prefer driving to the airport and parking their car for the duration of the trip the airport offers a wide array of on-airport and off-airport parking facilities. The Old House
Can anybody remember the house that used to be at the airport and the very big garden and the family who used to live there. If anyone has any photos it would be vey much apprecited if you could le me have a copy. As i was living in that house many years ago. Even any stories re the our dog that used to stop the aircrafts from taking off. I even played footie with Mike Channon, kevin kegan when they trained opposite our house.
Southampton is a large airport in the Southwest of England . Only small planes like q400s, dh4s , A320s and A319s fly there Southampton is a great airport for flying around the north parts of Europe including Belfast, Spain,East Midlands Manchester and many more great places !!
