The New Zealand Airline Pilots’ Association would like to warn members of the public and other pilots about the dagers that exist at Taupo Airport. In the Association’s view Taupo airport is critically deficient in that it lacks an appropriate Air Traffic Service. Essentially Taupo Airport has one of the most diverse traffic mixes in New Zealand and thus requires an air traffic control system. Unfortunately this has not happened. The New Zealand Airline Pilots’ Association has cautioned and recommended that its pilots take extreme care when operating into the airport as we believe that the possibility of a mid air collision is a very real possibility. Please take the advice of airline pilots who are telling you this airport should be made much safer than it currently is.
